INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: Delegates of the Cadastre Committee was in New York

From April 28 to May 2, 2025, the regular session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names is holding in New York City, USA. Specialists from the fields of geography, cartography, geospatial information, linguistics and history are participating to learn and share best practices and norms, as well as new developments in the management and standardization of geographical names.
Deputy Head of the Cadastre Committee, Aram Gugarats, and the Head of the Foreign Relations Department, Marine Sahakyan are participating to the UN-GEGN Session.
The Cadastre Committee presented a report on "Advancing geographical name standardization in Armenia to support sustainable development," which was published on the UN Geographical Names website.
This year’s session highlights the role of the Geographical Names Group as a booster for the preservation of cultural heritage, as well as a factor in supporting relevant aspects of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The session addresses the theme “Advancing the Standardization of Geographical Names through Cultural and Evidence-Based Solutions to Support Sustainable Development”.
The session discussed topics such as toponyms contributing to sustainable development, toponymic data management and geographical dictionaries, romanization systems, inclusion of diversity, and capacity building in the field of toponyms and geographical names as cultural heritage.
