Gevorg Manukyan, Deputy Head of the Cadastre Committee, and Vahagn Muradyan, Head of the Department of Geodesy and Land Management, participated in international events dedicated to the preservation and management of geographical names.

From 12 to 16 October 2026, a series of international professional events organised within the framework of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) took place in Hermagor, Austria. The events focused on the historical and cultural significance of geographical names, their standardisation, and modern approaches to their management.

At the international symposium entitled “The Heritage Value of Microtoponyms”, held on 12–13 October, representatives of the Cadastre Committee delivered a presentation entitled “Microtoponyms of the Republic of Armenia as Elements of Historical and Cultural Heritage”.

The presentation highlighted the distinctive characteristics of Armenia’s microtoponyms, the importance of their preservation and documentation, and the potential applications of modern geospatial information technologies.

The professional workshop, held from 14 to 16 October, addressed a range of current issues related to the standardisation and management of geographical names. These included harmonising approaches to the use of exonyms, developing guidelines for applying artificial intelligence and large language models in geographical names standardisation processes, and examining best practices in geographical names management.

The international events provided a valuable platform for exchanging professional expertise, strengthening international cooperation, and exploring modern technological solutions for the preservation, standardisation, and management of geographical names.
