INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: ASTANA
From September 15 to 19, an expert consultation-meeting on improving geospatial information management mechanisms and promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals, as well as a workshop on the UN Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF) for Central Asia, South Asia and neighboring countries on the topic "Implementing Geospatial Strategies: Challenges and Opportunities" is taking place in Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Karen Grigoryan, Head of the Information Technology Center of the Cadastre Committee, is participating in the events.
During the discussions, the current situation in the field of creating and managing geospatial information was reviewed, as well as the achievements of individual countries, existing challenges, and prospects for further progress in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The participants also discussed issues related to data accessibility, the creation of digital tools, improving their availability, the application of high technologies, innovations and digitalization, as well as the implementation of a comprehensive geospatial information system.
Karen Grigoryan, Head of the Information Technology Center of the Cadastre Committee, presented the initiatives launched by the Cadastre Committee – the authorized state body in the field of spatial data – the current steps, as well as the specifics of the creation, processing, and application of spatial data in the Republic of Armenia. In addition, works aimed at creating a national spatial data infrastructure were presented.
The issues of implementing a new multifunctional national geoport portal were discussed, and the steps taken to install the server system and software, as well as to launch the cadastral and cartographic modules, were presented.
